Muster roll, payrolls, and assorted lists of the officers, non commisioned officers, rank & file of Selin's Company and it's associated units, companies and corps during the American Revolution 1777 through 1784. Those being the Corps of Nicolas Ottendorff ( Dec.1776 to June 1777), and Charles Armand (June 1777 to Nov. 1778 ) and Moses Hazen's Regiment (Jan 1782 to 1784) and the Companies of Captains Dreisback (Freisback), Schott, and Bauer.

This is the earliest listing of men in Co.#2, Captain Selin's Company, that we have located to date. Although it is a Payroll for May-June of 1777, research that we have done points to a date of sometime in the Summer of 1777 (most likely July or August 1777 *) This is based on the facts that there is the signature of Col. Charles Armand who took command of Ottendorff's Corps on June 11th 1777 and the countersignature of Richard Humpton** at that point in charge of the 2nd Brigade -Genl. Lincoln's Division ( Lincoln had been transfered north while his Division remained in the Philadelphia area to become attached to General Stephen's then to General Wayne). Also the names on the list show men that we feel were in Co. # 1 Dreisbach's, Co.# 4 Bauer's as well as Ottendorff's own Company. This may refect recent disorganization from the damage to the ranks during the engagements of Short Hills and Bound Brook, NJ in June of 1777

*George Washington's General Orders August 6th 1777 "The pay Abstracts of every regiment and corps in the army, for the month of July, and any time preceding that month, for which they have not been made out, are to be completed and delivered to the Pay Master General by Monday next. The officers commanding regiments and corps will be answerable for the execution of this order: And every officer, who does not deliver in his abstracts, punctually by the time above assigned, may depend on being arrested, and tried for disobedience of orders; unless there are reasons, which may render it impracticable, to any to make out and deliver their abstracts by that time"

**General Washington's General Orders July 3, 1777 "Col. Humpton will take the command of the division commanded by General Lincoln."

Below is a list of Muster Rolls for the Original Five Companies that comprised Ottendorff's Corps. ( The Corps de Ottendorff). Unfortunately we cannot say for sure when the Lists of Ottendorf's Company, Dreisbach's Company or Bauer's Company were compiled. Most likely it was early in 1777 before the Jersey Campaigns and the Battle of Short Hills. Why then, there is no muster for Selin's and Schott's Company at that time is a mystery.

The Muster roll of Selin's Company below was compiled in June of 1778. This would reflect, I'm sure, the state of the "Late Ottendoff's Corps" after the losses to the ranks in the actions of Short Hills in June of 1777, the disapearence of Nicolas de Ottendorff and the capture of Captain Schott at that time, and the new Commander of the Corps, Charles Armand, off recruiting Frenchmen to complete "his vision of what the Corps should be". This does not reflect the original Company #2 of Ottendorff's Corps in the Spring of 1777

The Muster roll of Captain Schott's Company below was compiled in October of 1778. This would be about the time of him resumeing his duties after his prisoner exchange. We know he was still listed as a "prisoner" in a return of Officers by both Selin in August 1778 and Armand in September of 1778. This reformation of Schott's Company may not reflect the original Company #3 of Ottendorff's Corps as it was in the Spring of 1777.

The dates after the names of some of the men would be their enlistment dates (when known). Some have additional information concerning that person.

The List Below was transcribed from a List of Soldiers associated with Moses Hazen's Regiment In the National Archives microfilm collection. How or why many of the earliest soldiers of Captain Selin's Company are listed here is a puzzle. Possibly this list was compiled in this way because Captain Selin served the last years of the American War of Independence with Hazen's Regiment and the records that were found regarding Selin's men were grouped together in this last Regimental Rouster.
Contrary to earlier writings concerning Captain Selin's, he was not with Moses Hazen or the 2nd Canadian Regiment until January of 1781
This list may seem jumbled at first but careful inspection will show the name then rank of the soldier, their Company, when they inlisted (if known), Their term of service (if known), If they died in service and any add'l information about them. The term ommited, omit... means their name was removed from the later rolls,(reasons unknown). The term "des" would mean deceased.
